The last thing on my mind parenting has been potty training. Once I found out that Korey had Sensory Processing Disorder and a severe speech delay, I wanted to do everything to make him better each day, going on the toilet wasn’t in the future thinking.
Ever since we have really tried to buckle down on potty training these past 4 months, I finally realized how difficult not thinking about this before has made everything. First, he’s too big for child potty chair now. All the fun little potties that have buttons to push and cute little characters on them, no go.
Now with his troubles of not having a good sense of touch, everything has to be almost twice as hard for him to recognize it on or under his body. I’ve been paying more attention to him, seeing if there’s noticeable changes in him when he may be going to the potty and recently I have been able to hear the grunt and off we run to the potty!
Two days in a row, kicking butt at potty training! Man oh man the after parties of popping on the potty are insane, we are always so happy and excited. It’s something that has worried me about him entering Kindergarten, being able to attend fun sports that he may want to play, now there is some relief off my shoulders and I’m hoping for more of these days ahead.
