How to Make a Busy Box for Your Cat
Taking care of my four cats is important to me, keeping them active and actively covering up the scent of them is top, priority. Today I will be teaching you how to make a busy box for your cat and what I use to keep the house smelling clean.
Growing up I have always had a cat around me, there’s just something about the connection I feel with them that brings me joy when I need it. I never thought that I would have 4 cats under my roof but I felt the connection when I rescued each of them. The litter boxes are something that I clean every day and making sure I have a quality litter that can tackle the scent of multiple cats is important.
Cat’s Pride® Fresh & Light Ultimate Care® Scented Multi-Cat Scoop Litter is my go-to choice, available at your local Walmart in the cat section. It clumps strong, has low dust and the brand is partnered with the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation™ who are committed to helping end the suffering of animals. Each portion of every sale made goes to the foundation, a simple way to make your purchase count towards ending animal cruelty.
How to make a busy box
Materials:
- cardboard box
- twine
- bells (available from craft store)
- scissors or crafting knife
Start by opening the box on one end and cut off the excess flaps. You may find that your cat/s already want to know what you are doing. I couldn’t get through making this box without at least one of them by my side.
Now you want to make the ‘door’ for the box. The way I designed this allows your cat to do one of their favorite things, squeezing into small places. While the room inside the box is big, we know that cats like to feel secure and a small opening gives them that chance. Make a line leaving a 2-inch space above the door and go half way to the box and down to make the opening.
Once the opening was made the cats came one by one to check it out. Here’s Willams really enjoying himself.
Take your bell and put the twine through it and tie the end, attach another bell at the end of the twine on the other end.
You can give your cat a little peep hole on one side of the box which you can then hang the bell and twine from. I allowed it so that my cats can play with a bell in the peephole and a bell at the door.
Here’s Joy enjoying the final product. The love for this box reminded me of how happy I am using Cat’s Pride® Ultimate Care it’s now over 50% lighter at 10 lbs (†See packaging for details) and has a 10+ day odor control & powerful absorption (*Based on laboratory testing, when used as directed).
Once I can get the box back from them, I am going to paint it. This is a much easier way to show them how much I love them than the hunt for the perfect toy. The time I spent putting this together allowed me to spend more tender moments with my cats. I could sense their appreciation and it makes me so happy.
How do you show your cats that you love them?
