Halloween is a great time of year to have a party and get all your friends together! Dress up, make gross silly foods, witches brew drinks, and have fun grossing your friends out and scaring them all night long!!
This party can also scare your wallet and your budget if you aren’t careful! Here are some tips to keep your budget low!
Stick with Plain Colors – If you go to the dollar store you can normally get table clothes, plates, cups, napkins, forks, spoons and knives for parties. Many have balloons as well. Stick to the simple colors, don’t try to find ones with Halloween patterns you will pay more. Orange, black, purple and even green all work great!
Make it Yourself – Make the food and drinks yourself. Pinterest is full of great, easy ideas. Everything from mummy fingers and witches brew to gummy worms and banana ghosts. You can buy silicon molds and make your own Jell-o, cookies, ice cubes and more.
Make Décor Yourself – You can make monsters from tin cans, and spray paint dollar store pumpkins to match any décor. The Dollar Store will be your friend when it comes to décor! You can get so much that you can transform to fit what you are looking for. Take empty gallon jug (like milk and water jugs)clean them out take off the labels and draw, happy, silly, and scary faces like you would on pumpkins. Fill them with water and drop in a glow stick and use them to line the walk way, stairs or hidden around the house for some extra light!
Borrow – Ask your friends if you can borrow some of their décor, just don’t forget to invite them to your party! If your best friend has a fog machine ask to borrow it for effects, ask to borrow your sisters spooky animated witch, and your neighbors lights that you love. If you invite them to enjoy the party they should be happy to help!
Potluck – Don’t cringe! Have every one brings one item and it has to be Halloween themed and award a prize to the most creative tell theme/item. Tell them there will be judging for each category (appetizer/side, main dish and dessert) and offer a $10 gift card for each catagory for a prize. $30 for food is still a lot cheaper then $300+!!
Simple Tweaks – Turn the lights down, use cheap dollar store UNSCENTED candles (trust me on this one!). This alone adds a ‘spook factor’. But make sure those candles are unscented! If you mix scents you might turn off your guests and they might leave early!
Keep it Fun – do some fun games like ghost bowling. Take on toilet paper rolls make some ghost faces on them stack them up and roll a pumpkin to bowl! Have a costume runway, or judging. Prizes can be as simple as a tin of your famous fudge!
