Just a note that Korey does go to a Preschool that has children with developmental delays. If you have any questions about your child entering Preschool and they receive therapy I would gladly chat with you.
It’s been a bit over a week for Korey’s first week of preschool. I can happily say that finally, today he didn’t cry getting off the bus. I was wondering when the crying coming home from school would stop, but he is finally understanding that he will get to go back. The weekend is left to Grandma to distract him.
He tells me all about his day, as best that I can understand, I sure do know that he loves that sandbox! I’ve now learned that he has a walk buddy when they go to class and different rooms, apparently it’s a girl who is named Tenisan. That’s not really her name but that’s all I can understand from him, I will be writing his teacher to ask her specifically the name because I like having conversations with Korey that are accurate.
He has gym class, which includes a big ball pit. His first “fundraiser” for the class was handed out, ordering books and with each order the class is donated books! In October we will take a trip to Brown’s Berry Patch (a local farmer owned ice cream/plant shop) to pick a class pumpkin. He comes home every day and tells me how much fun he had and he wants to go to school Ten more times.
I never thought the first week of preschool would be this amazing for him, and for me to know he’s happy.
Moms, I can reassure you that your child will be fine when they leave. Find the best thing about school and keep reminding them about that and enjoy in their day, every day. And make sure that you are on top of their IEP and stay in contact with their therapies.
