Do you have a beauty story? How you found out about makeup or taking care of your hair, were they tips passed down or did you read them out of a magazine? Every woman has her own unique beauty story and I want to share mine with you.
My grandmother was the ever classic mascara and lipstick. Simple beauty routine, flawlessly executed. Vividly I can remember her specific Covergirl lipstick color, a pearl pink. While she never shared her secrets and tips with me, she was the first woman I remember always wearing some makeup.
Beauty became a big thing to me in middle school, 6th grade to be exact. I took a turning point from a tom boy into wanting to embrace my femininity. However instead of classic colors for eyeshadow I went towards reds, bright blues, yellows and pinks. Anything that stood out, like my hair, was my favorite. There was bullying with my different looks, and a few years where I tried to fit in but I wasn’t happy.
Makeup and hair have given me a way to express myself that I cannot find in words. They have let me show some of my emotions outwardly and it’s hard to be upset when you wake up with bright blue hair! I’ve found confidence in makeup and hair, along with a routine to help take care of myself because I was never really given a schedule to follow and there would be days on end as a child that my hair would be greasy.
A favorite place for me to gather up beauty supplies is the wonderful CVS. Right now they have an amazing offer where you can receive 50% off any one Dove product after purchasing one of equal or lesser value.
Dove has also created a beautiful inspiring video which you can view here: lbx.la/ay949 . As their mission Dove wants to embrace the real women that have taught us about beauty and honoring them as a thank you. Surrounding this video is one simple product, the Dove beauty bar. You can see how one family has embraced this simple tradition over and over.
