5 Tips for Cleaning Our Your Wardrobe This Spring
You may love clothing, but how much of the stuff in your closet do you actually wear? When it comes time to clean out your closet this spring, you need to really consider whether or not the items you own need to stay. And, if you need more incentive, just remember that the more you get rid of, the more room you’ll have when you spot a good sale. The following are just five tips for cleaning out your wardrobe this spring.
1. Setup a Box System
You need to sort each piece of clothing in your closet. To help you do this, set up a box system with at least three boxes: Keep, Toss, and Donate. You can add additional boxes, if you need them, but this three box system keeps it simple. As you go through each piece of clothing, consider the last time you wore it, if it fits, if it’s worn out, etc. Before deciding to toss or donate an item, make sure it’s worth donating. If it’s completely worn out, has holes, etc toss it.
2. Let It Go
Channel your inner Elsa and just, “Let it go.” If you’re holding onto something, hoping it will fit again, thinking you may have somewhere to wear it, thinking you might finally find something to go with it – just let it go. Chances are there are pieces if your closet that you haven’t worn in years. There may even be pieces that still have tags on them. Just LET IT GO.
3. Use the Keep One, Donate One Approach
If you have a lot of the same items in your closet, such as an abundance of tee shirts, use the keep one, donate one approach. A great step for this is to use your first instinct and move quickly. The quicker you move, the faster you’ll get through it and the less chance you have to second guess yourself.
4. Make Room for Your Clothes to Breathe
You want to aim to have a closet that isn’t jam packed. When your closet is stuffed full, your clothes are more apt to wrinkle or get damaged. You should be able to pull something out of the closet without having to shove everything to one side. Once this is done, you’ll never have to worry about pulling that perfect outfit from the closet only to find it horribly wrinkled.
5. Get Rid of Items You’re Unsure About
Last, but not least, if you have any questions about an item, let it go. If you find yourself wondering why you bought it in the first place, where you’re going to wear it, etc, just donate it. Your closet should only be filled with items that make you feel and look fabulous. If you have to question whether or not an item makes your butt look big, you don’t need it.
A good spring cleaning can bring you one step closer to having the dream closet you’ve always wanted. And, yes, it will also give you more room to put all those new clothes you find on sale and just can’t pass up. What are you waiting for? Get cleaning so you can get shopping.
