3 Ways to Get Your Child to Drink More Water
Getting your child to drink more water is hopefully not a chore for you. However my hyperactive child frequently needs to be reminded to drink more water during the hotter months, and plain water is not a favorite.
Making sure that my child drinks more water creatively without adding things that he is sensitive to, like food coloring is becoming easier. So I am sharing my three ways to help get more water into your child’s day.
- Add flavor with fruit. Fresh slices of fruit are a great addition to any water while adding natural flavors. You can even add herbs or fruit by using a tea strainer and put mint, raspberries, cranberries and more. It is also a great way to make cleaning up easier, and sneaking in added nutrition if your child likes the flavors but won’t eat the fruit.
- Give them a fun cup or straw. Children are smart, if they realize you are trying to give them something they don’t like, they will more than likely fight you. Why not make drinking water fun? By adding a cup with their favorite character, or a silly straw to watch the water go through. Simply adding a fun step for them you will see less resistance from them to drink water.
- Help show them how to get water for themselves. If your child is old enough to get their drink, you should show them how. Making water accessible to them will allow for thirst quenchers to get taken care of faster than if they have to wait and ask. Also making a bit easier for you while they become more independent.
